Problems in the Exterior Wall Cladding industry (specifically the EIFS industry) started in 1995. NAHB did an investigation of 30 homes in Wilmington N.C. and issued a preliminary report on problems in December 1995. NAHB RC continued to investigate additional homes and issued a report on 100 homes in February 1996. EDI was created in response to this EIFS industry crisis in 1996.
Now decades later, we are still finding problems with Exterior Wall Claddings including EIFS, MD-EIFS, HCS (both Three Coat Stucco and One Coat Stucco) and Adhered Stone Veneer (ASV). If you want to help people identify and solve their building envelope problems, then you have come to the correct place to get the training you need.
In the 1960’s the development of polymer chemistry is the modern material that made EIFS possible. Note: Polymers gave the world materials such as, polystyrene (EPS and XPS), Acrylics, and new sealant materials that are used in EIFS.
Please review the following two presentations of the history of EIFS.
