Long Form Specifications may be any number of pages and often average 20 pages in length and can describe a manufacturer’s cladding system or they be customized for a specific project where the exact materials and installation are called out. Long From Specifications are typically accompanied by a full set of detail drawings.
The Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) Manual of Practice outlines the layout for Long Form Specifications. There are three primary parts or sections: GENERAL, PRODUCTS AND INSTALLATION.
- The GENERAL section contains the description and scope, referenced standards and codes, definitions, design limitations, quality assurances, product delivery and storage, job conditions, scheduling and warranty.
- The PRODUCTS section lists the manufacturer and all of the products, components and accessories, mixing instructions and performance requirements.
- The INSTALLATION section provides specific and detailed installation instructions of the cladding system layer by layer and component by component, job site cleanup and final inspection.
