Screwable vs Non-Screwable Sheathings

Screwable – Mechanical fasteners can be installed at any locations on the substrate (Plywood and Oriented Strand Board (OSB)).

OSB sheathing.

Plywood sheathing.

Non-screwable sheathing – Mechanical fasteners must be installed into wall stud locations only (all gypsum sheathings and cement board sheathings).

Exterior Gypsum sheathing.

Exterior grade glass fiber faced siliconized core gypsum sheathing.

Cement board sheathing.
