PI EIFS

PI- EIFS or Poly Iso or Polyisocyanurate Exterior Insulation Finish System: one manufacturer was Quick-R (PI systems with no WRB are no longer permitted on Moisture Sensitive Substrates; however, still permitted on concrete and masonry substrates).

PI-EIFS or Poly Iso EIFS or Polyisocyanurate-EIFS (one brand was Quik-R) is a wall insulation designed for use under Class PM and Class PB EIFS to provide a tougher substrate and faster board and coating application. PI – EIFS or Quik-R Wall Insulation is a polyisocyanurate foam core board faced with a specially coated glass fiber mat designed as an EIFS substrate for residential and light commercial new and retrofit construction.

PI-EIFS or Poly Iso – EIFS (Quik-R) Advantages

  • One-inch thick PI-EIFS or (Quik-R) combined with R-13 glass fiber batt results in an R-19 wood frame wall meeting most residential energy codes.
  • A one-inch x 4′ x 8′ board weighs only 4.5.
  • One inch or greater thicknesses of PI-EIFS or (Quik-R) can be attached directly to wood or metal studs without gypsum or other backer boards.
  • The glass fiber mat facer on PI-EIFS or (Quik-R) typically eliminates the need for full meshing (depending on the EIFS manufacturer). Most manufacturers have also eliminated joint-only mesh applications.
  • The fabricated wall insulation can be fashioned with minimum effort to create decorative architectural breaks or other accents, such as arches, scallops, quoins, and special window treatments.
  • Approved by most EIFS manufacturers as a coating underlayment.
  • The long length helps cover uneven framing.
  • The material can be coated on either side.
  • PI-EIFS or (Quik-R) can be adhesively attached (EIFS manufacturer specification).
  • PI-EIFS or (Quik-R) comes in multiple thicknesses.
  • PI-EIFS or (Quik-R) has been used as a substrate under polymer coatings for over 10 years
