This video demonstrates several application steps for MD-EIFS including:
- ASTM C1397 – 13 (Reapproved 2019) Standard Practice for Application of Class PB Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS) and EIFS with Drainage is the standard that applies to EIFS installations. We recommend that you obtain your own copy from ASTM.
- The need for shims, slivers, or low expanding foam to fill gaps in the EPS.
- Attach decorative bands with adhesive foam and temporary nails.
- Horizontal surfaces: ASTM C1397 states “Provide sufficient slope on faces of EIFS … surfaces to prevent water, snow or ice from accumulating or standing. A minimum 6-inch in 12-inch pitch is recommended. Length of sloped surfaces shall not be more than 12-inches.”
- The EPS is rasped to get a smooth flat surface.
- For the Mechanically attached systems, the Wind-Locks require pre-spotting with basecoat to avoid reading through when the wall is finished.
- The EPS boards must be totally back wrapped; observe the detailing steps.
- Ensure that the isolation joint is maintained around penetrations for backer rod and sealant.
- All joints of standard mesh must be lapped a minimum of 2.5-inches.
- Observe the installation of the Butterfly mesh at inside corners of windows and penetrations.
- Observe the installation of the Heavy Impact Mesh; the mesh is butted together and not overlapped. Note: to avoid cracks all Heavy Impact Mesh requires that it must be covered with a layer of standard mesh with proper laps.
